Michael, I know you marked this as Fix Released, but I still have the same problem after updating gksu to 2.0.5-1ubuntu5. Is it working for you? By the way, I've noticed that the password in http_proxy is always displayed cleartext, I suppose that's a different bug (that I shall open today).
