Public bug reported:

I have an asus P5W DH Deluxe which seems to be the cause of the failure:
when suspending, the drive sdb doesn't seems to accept the command and
the suspension is halted. This drive is created by the motherboard and
it's usage is still unknown to me anyway, It made the boot get really
slow some time ago.

In the case I try to standby I get back to the Desktop after a second or
so but when I try to suspend to ram I can get nothing back and I have to
manually force reboot.

If you need something more just ask. I append the relevant part of dmesg
here :)

** Affects: linux-source-2.6.22 (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
