I'm experiencing this too. I needed to have roaming mode enabled though, for VPN. I finally got a workaround working by removing the vmxnet module, and only using pcnet32. The rest of the vmware tools functionality (drag and drop onto desktop) seems to still work, although it somehow seems slower.
