I'll let it know if it happens again, either with or without apt running along. I suspect there are certain race conditions in the upgrade notification that may or may not trigger.
My laptop is somewhat older, an Intel Core2 Duo with 4GB of RAM. I'm running Kubuntu 24.04 on it now. When this crash happened it was probably the first time it was nudging me to upgrade to 26.04.
