Public bug reported:
When using Ubuntu 24.04.5 LTS with GNOME 46 and an NVIDIA RTX 4070 Ti
SUPER, locking the desktop with Super+L causes all three monitors to
lose their video signal and enter power-saving mode.
Attempting to wake the displays using the keyboard or mouse produces a
brief response, but the lock screen never appears. Switching to a
virtual terminal using Ctrl+Alt+F1/F2/F3 does not restore visible
output.
Steps to reproduce:
Log into an Ubuntu Wayland session.
Press Super+L to lock the desktop.
Allow the monitors to enter power-saving mode.
Attempt to wake the displays using the keyboard or mouse.
Observe that the monitors do not display the unlock screen.
Expected behavior:
The monitors wake and display the GNOME lock screen, allowing the user
to enter their password.
Actual behavior:
All three monitors remain black, preventing the user from unlocking the
session.
Additional information:
Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
GNOME Shell 46
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER
Three-monitor configuration
Issue reproduced under Wayland
Same lock/unlock procedure works correctly under X11
Disabling the Multi Monitors Bar GNOME extension did not resolve the
issue
Core GNOME session and screensaver processes were confirmed running
The issue appears specific to the Wayland session or its interaction
with the NVIDIA driver, although the root cause has not been
established.
