Public bug reported:

Title: Dell XPS 13 DX13260 (0E53): poor internal speaker sound; CS35L56
amps missing from sound card

The internal speakers sound very poor. Audio is audible, so this is not
a complete "no sound" issue.

Hardware and software:
- Dell XPS 13 DX13260, SKU 0E53; audio PCI subsystem 1028:0e53
- BIOS 1.3.0
- Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS, kernel 7.0.0-1015-oem
- linux-firmware 20260319.git217ca6e4.1ubuntu
- firmware-sof-signed 2025.12.2-1
- alsa-ucm-conf 1.2.15.3-1ubuntu1.7

Steps to reproduce:
1. Select the internal Speaker output in Sound settings.
2. Play music or speech at a moderate volume.
3. Observe poor sound quality.

Expected: normal sound quality from the laptop's full speaker system.
Actual: poor sound quality despite audible stereo playback.

Read-only diagnostic findings:
- Both left and right CS35L56 SPI amplifiers bind to their drivers.
- snd_soc_cs35l56_spi has a usecount of 0.
- ALSA exposes no AMPL/AMPR amplifier controls.
- The sound card components list only spk:cs42l43-spk.
- Boot logs report no matching SoundWire machine driver and fall back to
function topologies, including sof-sdca-1amp-id2.tplg.
- No files matching 10280e53 were found in /usr/lib/firmware/cirrus.
- Kernel sidecar-add/count implementation symbols are present.
- The CirrusSmartAmpCalibrationData EFI variable is present; its contents were
not read.
- Internal stereo HiFi output selected; hardware gains balanced; no PipeWire
filter nodes or user audio overrides found.

These findings suggest the sidecar amplifiers are not integrated into
the playback path. This is a working diagnosis, not a confirmed acoustic
A/B result. No workaround, custom firmware, kernel option, or BIOS
change has been applied.

An exact-model owner reports the same amplifier symptoms:

Possibly related Ubuntu report:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2159594
That report concerns silence/PLL faults rather than poor sound.

Please investigate missing amplifier integration and model-specific
firmware, and whether fixes can be provided through supported Ubuntu
updates.
