The issue has now been confirmed upstream by XWayland developer Olivier Fourdan. The fix is already present upstream in commit c39b1591 (“xwayland: Do not use pointer crossing count for slave devices”) and has also been backported to the xwayland-24.1 branch in commit 0ca92fb4. Olivier Fourdan has advised that Ubuntu should update its XWayland package to a current version containing this fix. Ubuntu 26.04 currently provides XWayland 2:24.1.10-1, which is the version affected by this problem. I tested my locally rebuilt 2:24.1.10 package with the one-line upstream fix, and it successfully restored Wacom pen input in Xournal. Upstream issue: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/-/work_items/1926 Please consider backporting the upstream fix to Ubuntu 26.04 or updating the XWayland package to a version containing the fix.
