Public bug reported:
Every so often, up to the boot logo everything works fine... then when
the log in screen is supposed to show, the screen goes dark and the
monitor on standby. This requires a hard reset as nothing can be done
form that point on.
I believe this to be an issue with initialization of the GPU from boot
to the log in screen. I get this error when it happens, as far as I can
tell:

Not sure how to proceed, but it's an annoying issue.
