Public bug reported:
ASUS ExpertBook P3 PM3606CHA
Ubuntu 26.04
Kernel: 7.0.0-31-generic
Audio codec:
Realtek ALC256
Vendor ID: 0x10ec0256
Subsystem ID: 0x10433501
Symptoms:
- Internal speakers produce no sound.
- 3.5 mm headphones also produce no sound.
- PipeWire detects Ryzen HD Audio Controller Speaker normally.
- ALSA exposes ALC256 Analog playback device.
- speaker-test runs normally but produces no audible sound.
- Headphone jack detection does not work:
pin 0x21 GET_PIN_SENSE returns 0x0 both unplugged and plugged.
- Speaker pin 0x14 has PIN_WIDGET_CONTROL=0x40.
- EAPD on pin 0x14 is already 0x02.
- Manually enabling codec GPIO2 (mask/direction/data = 0x04)
does not restore speaker audio.
- No CS35L41/TAS2781/etc external amplifier is detected by ACPI.
dmesg:
ALC256: picked fixup (pin match)
autoconfig for ALC256:
line_outs=1 (0x14) type:speaker
