I am running Linux Mint 22.3 based on Ubuntu 24.04 (Noble).
With kernel 7.0.0-28-generic, Xorg intermittently crashes during
graphical startup on my AMD Radeon Oland XT GPU.
Hardware:

With kernel 7.0.0-28-generic the GPU is using the amdgpu driver.
Actual behavior:
On some boots Xorg crashes during graphical initialization and dumps core. The
automatic LightDM login then does not complete normally and I am presented with
a manual login screen. Manual login with my username and password succeeds and
the desktop subsequently works.
Relevant Xorg stack trace contains:
FatalError
dixRegisterPrivateKey
glamor_init
modesetting_drv.so
AddGPUScreen
The kernel also reports:
amdgpu 0000:01:00.0: SI support provided by amdgpu.
Use radeon.si_support=1 amdgpu.si_support=0 to override.
and:
amdgpu 0000:01:00.0: [drm] Failed to setup vendor infoframe on connector
DP-1: -22
Expected behavior:
Xorg and LightDM should start reliably without an Xorg core dump, and the
configured automatic login should complete normally.
Reproducibility:
The problem is intermittent. Kernel 7.0.0-28-generic has produced both
successful boots and boots where Xorg crashes during graphical initialization.
Comparison:
On the same computer and Linux installation I tested:
6.17.0-35-generic - graphical startup works
6.17.0-42-generic - graphical startup works
7.0.0-28-generic - intermittent Xorg crash during startup
With the 6.17 kernels the GPU uses the radeon driver. With kernel
7.0.0-28 it uses amdgpu.
This change in driver selection may be related to the problem, but I
have not confirmed that it is the cause.
The separate USB audio issue I observed with a JBL Quantum 400 under
kernel 7.0.0-28 is not included in this report and will be reported
separately.
