I am using HP Omen 16-wd0063dx.
Device specs: 16 GB RAM, 6 GB 4050 NVidia dedicated GPU, and intel 13th gen i7
H series CPU.
Dual Boot System: Windows 11 25H2 + Ubuntu 24LTS
Nvidia drivers version: 535, 550, 595 all tested with the bug.
Bug: System becomes extremely slow (<1 FPS), even in TTY.
Obeservations:
1.`nvidia-smi` works.
2. Nouveau blacklisted.
3. Wayland/Xorg changes do not fix it.
4. nvidia drivers shows up.
5. Secure boot is disabled.
Root Cause: Windows HP Omen Gaming Hub had switched GPU mode to hybrid.
Fix: Switch it back to Discrete.
Insights:
1. Ubuntu does not properly handle certain MUX configurations, leading to
severe performance degradation despite correct driver setup.
2. I haven't worked on this problem with `prime-select query` set to
`on-demand`.
When my mux switch is set to hybrid, in dual boot system, it breaks the
nvidia drivers in ubuntu 22 to latest ubuntu; given the `prime-select
query` return `nvidia`; but when it is changed to discrete using boot
settings or omen gaming hub; ubuntu works properly!!
