An error while installing updates with `sudo apt update && sudo apt
upgrade -y` that included an update to the package dealing with a USB
3.0 dockstation that I use for keybord/mouse/USB hub and for a third
monitor for my workstation. The error prevented the system from booting,
and I have to log on using the 'Advanced Ubuntu Boot Options' and
selecting the previous build (kernel version Linux 6.17.0-40-generic).
Booting with the normal startup option for Ubuntu, I get an all purple
screen with an ascii penguin and the text "KERNEL PANIC! Please Reboot
your computer. VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)".
Rebooting without using the Advanced Options workaround continues to
take me to this screen.
I am using Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS 64-bit with Gnome version 46 and X11.
