Addendum: I followed the same instructions kubunsero did (per Achim Bohmet) with exactly the same results.
I manually killed the extra (root) process. I have noticed one thing though; I can start Adept, close it, wait a few minutes and then run kdesu dolphin (or whatever) and not get asked for a pass.
