Additional platform and comparison-system data:
Affected DUT:
CID: 202505-36753
Model: Dell Pro Max 18 Plus MB18250 (Intel Core Ultra 9, 64GB)
CPU: Intel Core Ultra 9 285HX
BIOS: Dell 2.6.1, 03/16/2026
Microcode: 0x11b
Problematic CPU group: CPUs 16-19
cluster_id: 64
core_id: 32-35
APIC IDs: 64,66,68,70
Firmware/CPU topology exposed to Linux:
CPUs 0-7:
max freq: 5500 MHz
base freq: 2800 MHz
cpu_capacity: ~1012-1024
ACPI CPPC highest_perf: 87/88
build result: pass
CPUs 8-23:
max freq: 4700 MHz
base freq: 2100 MHz
cpu_capacity: 756
ACPI CPPC highest_perf: 65
I also checked a close comparison system:
CID: 202505-36752
Label: KDK18-DVT2-C2
Model: Dell Pro Max 18 Plus MB18250 (Intel Core Ultra 7, 32GB)
CPU: Intel Core Ultra 7 265HX
BIOS: 1.2.0, 06/19/2025
Kernel: 6.17.0-1026-oem
On that comparison system, I built the NVIDIA 580 module source from a
temporary copy under /tmp, targeting its installed 6.17.0-1026-oem
headers. This avoided modifying DKMS/package state while exercising the
same NVIDIA build path.
The comparison system passed the same CPU-affinity build matrix:
CPUs 0-7 with make -j8: pass
CPUs 8-11 with make -j4: pass
CPUs 12-15 with make -j4: pass
CPUs 16-19 with make -j4: pass
CPUs 8-19 with make -j8: pass
All comparison-system runs generated the correct conftest result:
#undef NV_DRM_GEM_OBJECT_PUT_UNLOCK_PRESENT
No BUG/Oops/post_alloc_hook/cc1/GCC segfault/MCE/hardware-error messages
were observed on the comparison system after the build matrix.
Conclusion:
The failure appears specific to the Ultra 9 DUT / BIOS 2.6.1 / physical
sample / CPU cluster 16-19 combination. It does not reproduce on the
checked Ultra 7 KDK18-DVT2-C2 system.
