Hey Daniel,
I checked the affected machine as requested. (this is the same error
where it would hang the session and log me out, which closes all of my
windows and causes me to log back in, just less frequent than it was
previously)
1. /var/crash contains this GNOME Shell crash file:
/var/crash/_usr_bin_gnome-shell.1000.crash
The report unpacks locally and shows:
Date: Tue Jun 23 10:16:15 2026 Package: gnome-shell 50.1-0ubuntu1 Signal:
SIGSEGV Tags: resolute wayland-session Title: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV
in __pthread_kill_implementation()
apport currently marks the report unreportable because some desktop packages
were obsolete by the time I processed it.
The crash data still shows Mesa 26.0.8-1ubuntu0.2 was loaded at the time,
including:
dri_gbm.so from mesa 26.0.8-1ubuntu0.2 libgallium-26.0.8-1ubuntu0.2.so
libEGL_mesa.so.0 from mesa 26.0.8-1ubuntu0.2 libgbm.so.1 from mesa
26.0.8-1ubuntu0.2
The included shell journal also contains repeated messages matching this bug:
Failed to lock front buffer on /dev/dri/card1: gbm_surface_lock_front_buffer
failed Failed to query buffer age, got error 3003
I also checked the errors.ubuntu.com page for this machine using the
whoopsie-id, and it says:
No errors have been reported from this system
So I do not currently have a new errors.ubuntu.com problem link or new
Launchpad crash bug ID from apport.
If a fresh apport- submitted crash is still required, I can possibly
retest over the weekend after bringing the listed desktop packages
current and submit a new crash if it reproduces.
