You can still use the Nvidia GPU even when there is no monitor plugged into it directly. That would allow you to use Wayland in 24.04 and avoid the bug. You'd just need to find a USB-C to HDMI cable and hope the Thunderbolt 5 ports are wired to the Intel GPU. So it seems feasible.
