Public bug reported:

**Steps to reproduce**
1. Connect a BTRFS USB drive (0.5TB HDD)
2. Run: sudo mount /dev/sdb1 -o subvol=@data   (missing mount point argument)
3. System freezes, console unresponsive.

**Expected result** = mount should return an error ("mount point missing").
**Actual result** = systemd (PID 1) crashes with:
   Assertion 'path_is_absolute(p)' failed at src/basic/chase.c:648
   Caught <ABRT>, from our own process!

**SYSTEM**
   - OS: Linux Mint 22.1 Xia
   - systemd version: 255.4-1ubuntu8.15 (before and after reinstall!)
   - Kernel: 6.8.0-124-generic
   - Filesystem: BTRFS on external USB (NS1068 bridge)

**Attachments**
