Public bug reported: [ Impact ]
The dialpad tones in the lomiri-dialer-app can't be heard because of multiple bugs in systemd user services. The fix for this issue might also fix other serious bugs but I don't have the hardware to use a SIM card in Ubuntu. I think it's uncommon for people to use Ubuntu to make phone calls, but if someone has the hardware wants to do that, I believe there are only 3 apps: gnome-calls (part of Phosh, an alternate shell for GNOME for use on mobile devices), plasma-dialer (part of Plasma Mobile from the KDE project), and lomiri-dialer-app. Lomiri is a continuation of "Unity 8" and is actively used in the Ubuntu Touch project. [ Test Plan ] 1. Follow the instructions at https://wiki.debian.org/Lomiri to install lomiri on Debian 13. If you are using a VM, follow the additional instructions to enable 3D acceleration. If you are prompted to choose a display manager, any choice is ok 2. sudo apt install lomiri-dialer-app 3. Log out. Log into the Lomiri session. 4. Open the Phone app. Press keys on the dialer pad. No audio is played. 5. Install the updated lomiri-telephony-service and tone-generator packages. Log out and log back into Lomiri. 6. Open the Phone app. Press keys on the dialer pad. You should hear audio for each number entered. [ Where problems could occur ] There is not currently an official Ubuntu desktop flavor for Lomiri and lomiri-dialer-app has no reverse dependencies. lomiri-telephony-service and tone-generator are only used by Lomiri. Minimal fixes are done to fix the systemd user services and related fixes to the install rules and debhelper integration. [ Other Info ] This issue requires fixes for both lomiri-telephony-service and tone-generator. I am also preparing the identical changes as a proposed stable update for Debian 13.
