This is causing real-world harm: I had to spend hours fixing a system
that wouldn't reboot after an unwanted Nvidia 535 update. And I have
multiple CUDA-enabled systems that require a 6.8 kernel and Nvidia 470
driver combo that I had planned to keep using for the duration of 24.04
LTS.

(Just as an aside: given the current GPU shortage and inflated prices,
this is not a good time to break perfectly functional cards.)
