Some more info from testing on my laptop. If I boot kernel 6.17.0-29 with the headphones plugged-in, 3.5mm audio works fine. However, onboard audio (built-in speakers) does NOT work.
If I boot the same kernel without headphones plugged-in, I get the opposite behaviour.
