As per (Ubuntu 26.04 LTS Release Notes) [https://documentation.ubuntu.com/release-notes/26.04/changes-since-previous-interim/#resuming-from-suspend-on-nvidia], this bug should be fixed. After upgrading (Ubuntu 26.04, tried nvidia driver 595 open & proprietary), it in fact worked as expected, but after a few resumes, it's misbehaving again.
