I'm not quite sure what you mean by that. What I've already tried is using my
keyboard shortcuts to adjust the brightness, but without success.
I can also outline two scenarios.
Scenario 1, only the internal screen connected:
- After turning on the laptop, the BIOS logo displays correctly
- Then the Ubuntu loading animation appears
- Just when I’d expect the login screen to appear, the screen goes black and
won’t respond anymore, unless I put the laptop to sleep by closing the lid. ->
After waking it up/opening the lid, everything suddenly works correctly.

Scenario 2, a second monitor is connected during startup:
- After powering on, the laptop correctly displays the BIOS logo on the laptop
screen
- Then the Ubuntu boot animation appears (on the laptop screen)
- After that, the laptop screen goes black, but I can see on the second monitor
that the login screen is actually there. (Second screen turns on, Background
color of login screen visible)
- I can even drag my mouse to the second screen and see it there
- If I now close the laptop screen, Ubuntu correctly switches the display and
the external screen is now used as the primary screen; the login field jumps to
the external screen.
- If I open the laptop screen now, it turns on correctly immediately, and the
login screen switches back to the laptop screen.

I hope this detailed description has made the problem clearer.
