Public bug reported:
**Summary:** linux-modules-nvidia-580-open-6.17.0-23-generic requires
nvidia-kernel-common-580 >= 580.142, but only 580.126.09 is available in
all repositories.
**Ubuntu version:** Ubuntu Questing (25.10)
**Steps to reproduce:**
1. Boot with kernel 6.17.0-23-generic
2. nvidia-smi fails, external monitors not detected
3. Attempt to install missing module: `sudo apt install
linux-modules-nvidia-580-open-6.17.0-23-generic`
**Error message:**
linux-modules-nvidia-580-open-6.17.0-23-generic : Depends on:
nvidia-kernel-common-580 (>= 580.142) but 580.126.09-0ubuntu0.25.10.2 is to be
installed
**Current state of nvidia-kernel-common-580:**
- Installed: 580.126.09-0ubuntu0.25.10.2
- Available in questing-security: 580.126.09-0ubuntu0.25.10.2
- Available in graphics-drivers PPA: 580.126.09-0ubuntu0.25.10.1
- Available in questing-updates: 580.126.09-0ubuntu0.25.10.1
The kernel module package for 6.17.0-23 has been published, but the
required nvidia-kernel-common-580 >= 580.142 is not yet available in any
repository. This leaves users unable to use Nvidia drivers on the latest
kernel.
**Workaround:** Boot with kernel 6.17.0-22-generic, where nvidia-580
works correctly.
** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-580 (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
