Thanks for your comment, it is a bit of a relief to know that at least this issue won't be present if/when I upgrade to 24.04. But as this laptop hasn't been certified (yet?) for 24.04 (and because I had stability issues with 24.04 on a different laptop), I am sticking with 22.04 for the time being. In any case, it is my understanding from the table at https://ubuntu.com/about/release-cycle that break/bug support (which I think should apply to this particular bug) is available for 22.04 until 2032 for Ubuntu Pro users... So while I agree that this does not seem to be getting attention or about to get some, I still think it should and remain hopeful it will, at least unless/until a maintainer says otherwise...
