Hi David,
Thanks for reporting this issue back in 2006. The logs and comments show
that during server install with expert mode, the system was unexpectedly
prompting for X monitor configuration because language support packages
were being installed along with desktop dependencies like
openoffice.org.
Colin Watson addressed this at the time by recommending preseed
'pkgsel/install-language-support=false' to avoid the issue. Modern
Ubuntu releases have improved server install detection logic that
properly filters out these packages, so this bug is now fixed in current
supported releases.
