Public bug reported:
According to the systemd documentation
(https://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/latest/systemd-fstab-
generator.html) the systemd-fstab-generator module creates .mount units
from /etc/fstab on boot. Also /etc/fstab.extra is supported:
> System Credentials
> fstab.extra
> This credential may contain addition mounts to establish, in the same format
> as fstab(5), with one mount per line. It is read in addition to /etc/fstab.

>Added in version 254.
Though this functionality doesn't work. I've tried this on Ubuntu Server
24.04.4 LTS (uses systemd v255) and Ubuntu Server 25.10 (uses systemd
v257) both with latest updates (on 5 Mar 2026).
How to reproduce:
1. Prepare directories: mkdir /opt/test /mnt/test
2. Populate /etc/fstab.extra: echo "/opt/test /mnt/test none bind 0 0" >
/etc/fstab.extra
3. Reboot
4. Execute findmnt. The directory /opt/test is not mounted on /mnt/test.
