The output when the cable is plugged into the USB replicator is the
same, except for that new entry:

And indeed the Ethernet interface is now "up" for Network Manager.

The ":avahi" suffix reminds me that I restored the Avahi service
yesterday to try network discovery. Would it be mandatory to support
Ethernet-over-USB adapters?

But as the IP is the DHCP fallback one, the connexion is useless.
