I grabbed the kernel and modules from hardy, 2.6.24-3, and I have not had a single crash since. I launched about 30 apocalypse in scorched3d without a crash. (before this would crash for sure within 3 shots). Could be some changes just avoid the trigger rather than really fixing the problem.. but something to try.
