Update to this issue after upgrading to the latest Ubuntu 25.10 release. I believe this issue is no longer present in 25.10, but due to another bug\feature I have identified #2098842 my external screen goes blank when my laptop lid is closed preventing me from confirming this issue as fixed.
If I repeat my original bug scenario, I can actually login blindly to a working Ubuntu desktop, which proves the laptop isn't going into shutdown\hibernate with the laptop lid closed.
