Public bug reported:
I recently ran some upgrades and pulled in linux-image-6.8.0-85-generic
and then rebooted. My server became unreachable.
I had to get it working again via the web console (Fasthosts VPS) so was
limited by what I could do. From my brief messing I discovered that:
- My network doesn't seem to work. ens6 is missing though a NIC is listed with
lspci.
- A virtual nic is renamed to eth0 for no obvious reason.
- None of this has been saved in my syslog!
Reverting back to -71 got everything working again:
virtio_net virtio2 ens6: renamed from eth0
I couldn't see anything in dmesg about a driver failing, and have zero
idea where to start with this, but it is pretty clear that the updated
kernel is the issue.
