@Vedran: Yes, I recommend using the terminal instead of the additional
driver manager GUI, because the GUI seems  to install the pre-built
modules that are triggering this bug for hundreds (probably thousands)
of people. With apt, you can force the dkms version:

sudo apt install nvidia-driver-580-open nvidia-dkms-580-open
