Two upstream issues are at work here to make remoting into an autologin desktop session very difficult:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/-/issues/3547 https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-remote-desktop/-/issues/27 The first issue (the RDP password being reset to a random passphrase when the keyring that holds it is unlocked) is being fixed in an upstream merge request. The second one (the RDP password being held in a keyring which is not unlocked after autologin) is unlikely to be fixed any time soon, if ever. There are numerous reports of the second issue on AskUbuntu/Reddit/etc. The least insecure workaround for it appears to store the RDP password, and the RDP password ONLY, in an unprotected keyring (keyring with no password): https://askubuntu.com/a/1409857 ** Bug watch added: gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/-/issues #3547 https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/-/issues/3547 ** Bug watch added: gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-remote-desktop/-/issues #27 https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-remote-desktop/-/issues/27 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2000063 Title: RDP password is silently reset to a random passphrase if using autologin To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/2000063/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
