Two upstream issues are at work here to make remoting into an autologin
desktop session very difficult:

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/-/issues/3547
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-remote-desktop/-/issues/27

The first issue (the RDP password being reset to a random passphrase
when the keyring that holds it is unlocked) is being fixed in an
upstream merge request. The second one (the RDP password being held in a
keyring which is not unlocked after autologin) is unlikely to be fixed
any time soon, if ever.

There are numerous reports of the second issue on AskUbuntu/Reddit/etc.
The least insecure workaround for it appears to store the RDP password,
and the RDP password ONLY, in an unprotected keyring (keyring with no
password):
