This is still broken (for me), a workaround is to use another
distribution method as shown on
https://freeorion.org/index.php/Main_Page
For the current version 0.5.1.1 there is a 3rd party ppa, a snap package
and the possibility to compile yourself.
The 0.5.0 snap should also be available for x64 and i386
