Public bug reported: On my Dell Latitude 5590 running Ubuntu GNOME, the system fails to detect or display any battery status — neither in the GNOME top bar nor via terminal tools like upower. Running upower -e and upower -i returns no usable battery data, indicating that the battery is not recognized at the kernel or ACPI level.
This makes it extremely difficult and frustrating to use on battery power, as there's no way to monitor charge status or remaining time. Compared to other Linux distributions, Ubuntu GNOME also feels unusually heavy and slow on this hardware, even for basic tasks. I’ve tried installing all relevant GNOME power management packages, enabling settings via gsettings and dconf-editor, and even using GNOME extensions — but nothing worked until attempting to override ACPI settings via kernel parameters. I sincerely hope future updates can improve battery detection and performance for hardware like this out of the box.
