Public bug reported: Sound stopped working on a Dell XPS 9640 after an upgrade.
This upgrade was installed a few weeks ago and sound disappeared. firmware-sof-signed:amd64 (2023.12.1-1ubuntu1.4, 2023.12.1-1ubuntu1.5) I had manually fixed the sound with a release from https://github.com/thesofproject/sof-bin/releases and this upgrade overwrote this and the result was that there was only a dummy output in pipewire. I would expect these kinds of drivers to be in some form of HWE so Ubuntu has working drivers for laptops that are by now over 2 years old. More details on my workaround. https://github.com/thesofproject/sof-bin?tab=readme-ov-file#install- process-with-installsh---release-tarballs tar zxf sof-bin-2025.05.tar.gz cd sof-bin-2025.05 sudo mv /lib/firmware/intel/sof* some_backup_location/ sudo mv /usr/local/bin/sof-* some_backup_location/ # optional sudo ./install.sh ** Affects: firmware-sof (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2117233 Title: Sound stops working on Dell XPS 9640 after upgrade To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firmware-sof/+bug/2117233/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
