Some firmwares and battery controllers have a setting to prevent leaving
the battery fully charged for extended periods of time. This is supposed
to slow down battery life degradation.

Have you checked if such a setting is enabled in the machine's bios/uefi
firmware?

Is something else setting a charge threshold?
