Indeed, I looked at the logs and that seems to be the case....
however... it just stopped working. So it WAS like this.

In fact, I have ~50 machines, and my jammy machines have chmod u+s,
while the noble machines do not. So at some point this was
(accidentally?) reverted and no one noticed.
