Public bug reported:
Gtk Wave Cleaner (package `gwc` version 0.22.04-1 from `ubuntu-focal-
universe`) corrupts WAV files in 24-bit format. When opening a 24-bit
WAV file, it silently deletes the `data` chunk, rendering the file
unreadable in all DAWs and editors.
This happens without any warning or confirmation. Affected files show this
error in SoX:
`sox FAIL formats: can't open input file 'file.wav': Could not find data chunk.`
The problem is reproducible and irreversible unless a backup is made.
Please consider:
- Removing this package from the Ubuntu repos,
- Or at least adding a visible warning in the package description to prevent
data loss.
** Affects: gwc (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
