** Description changed:

  Reference to Github issue:
  https://github.com/martinrotter/rssguard/issues/754

When RSS Guard fetches an article that was already downloaded
previously, but has been updated on the server and if the article is in
focus, then the unread messages counter in the system tray will
increment and immediately decrement, perhaps due to the fact that the
article is in focus and it is being automatically marked as read even if
the user did not see the updated article.

This happens even if the RSS Guard is minimized into system tray.

It does not happen if the article is not in focus. In this case the RSS
Guard correctly marks the article as unread and increments the counter
of unread items and it keeps its value until user opens the article to
  see the update.

-
- 1) OS: Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
+ 1) OS: Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, Ubuntu 24 LTS

  2) Package: rssguard 4.0.4+dfsg-1

  3) What you expected to happen: When RSS Guard downloads an updated
article (its content was modified on the server) the unread messages
counter incrementing and showing the number of unread items including
  the newly downloaded updated article.

  4) What happened instead: The unread messages counter incremented
(showed 1) and then immediately decremented to 0 (disappeared) without
  user's interaction.

This problem has been fixed by the maintainer in master branch. I picked
the relevant changes and made a patch.
