I am running Pidgin 2.2.1 on and Firefox 2.0.0.11 on Ubuntu 7.10 (gutsy). After setting up irc account(irc.ubuntu.com) and installing libpurple-bin (1:2.2.1-1ubuntu4.1), I am able to launch irc url.
