What eventually worked for me was: 1) clearing SecureBoot keys (putting SecureBoot into Setup mode) 2) booting into Ubuntu, running fwupdmgr update (of course nothing updated since the UEFI DBX was removed). 3) Restore SecureBoot keys to factory defaults. 4) Run fwupdmgr update
