There was a lot of activity on gdebi-gtk in Debian:

https://metadata.ftp-master.debian.org/changelogs//main/g/gdebi/gdebi_0.9.5.8_changelog
https://salsa.debian.org/debian/gdebi/-/commits/main?ref_type=HEADS
https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/gdebi

The key part is in the changelog:

gdebi (0.9.5.7+nmu8) unstable; urgency=medium
  * Non-maintainer upload.
  [ Doug Brown ]
  * GDebi/GDebiGtk.py: stay alive for pkexec. (Closes: #1065335, LP: #1854588)

So cheers, your fix went in Debian since gdebi 0.9.5.7+nmu8. Thanks!
But Ubuntu 24.04 has the previous version, 0.9.5.7+nmu7;
so the NEXT version after Ubuntu 24.04 will get it.
Better late than never!
