The explanation and the kernel bugfix make sense. One additional note: While trying to debug this, I tried with an strace -fp <PID OF SNAPD>, which made the issue disappear momentarily. Heisenbugish. So if people are looking for workarounds until they can get the kernel fix, here's another way.
