Public bug reported:

In fresh XUbuntu 24.04.02 installation, when adding networked printer
(HP OfficeJet 9022 "driverless" printer/scanner) through GUI, the
printer is detected correctly but cannot be added to the system because
of "internal error". Subsequently, /var/log/cups/ provides message
"Unable to create PPD file: Could not poll sufficient capability info
from the printer" which is not very helpful. This is puzzling because,
at the same time, scanning from the same networked printer (using
simple-scan) works flawlessly, without having to configure anything.

This was on fresh default install and it was very puzzling because with
older XUbuntu releases, the same printer was working flawlessly for
several years, out-of-the-box.

After much googling, I came upon the solution here:
https://github.com/OpenPrinting/cups-filters/issues/308 - Multicast DNS
needs to be enabled for the machine and for the network interface. Then,
everything works again.

For less computer literate user, this problem is absolutely unsolvable
and prevents him/her from using the printer.

I suggest either enabling MulticastDNS in default installation or
improving system-config-printer / CUPS error reporting to clearly tell
the user what the problem is and how they can fix it.

Unfortunately, I am not able to add more technical details because,
until yesterady, I had no idea what "MulticastDNS" or "CUPS" is. I just
needed to print.
