It now returns 255 (unknown), rather than 1 (not on mains).

So I can't see that this is any better than the currently broken script.

I would expect any current usage of this to take *any* non-zero result
to be not on mains.

If you can't find a battery what else is the system running on?  Surely
it MUST be on mains!
