Public bug reported:
System: Ubuntu 25.04 (plucky).
GPU: NVIDIA GA102 [GeForce RTX 3080 Lite Hash Rate]
Driver in use: nvidia-driver-570-open
There is an error starting the "nvidia-powerd.service" (enabled by
default):
# systemctl status nvidia-powerd.service

It causes systemd state be "degraded".
The info I have is that this service is part of this new feature of
Ubuntu plucky (see release notes at
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/plucky-puffin-release-notes/48687):
NVIDIA Dynamic Boost
--------------------
This release enabled NVIDIA Dynamic Boost by default on supported laptops with
NVIDIA GPUs.
NVIDIA Dynamic Boost is a feature of the NVIDIA drivers that dynamically shifts
power between CPU and GPU depending on the workload on the system. While
gaming, this allows extracting more performance by granting more power to the
GPU.
Dynamic Boost will be active only when the laptop is powered by AC and there is
enough load on the GPU. It will not be engaged when the system is running on
battery.
For more details refer to NVIDIA’s documentation
(https://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/570.133.07/README/dynamicboost.html).
It says that "This release enabled NVIDIA Dynamic Boost by default on
supported laptops with NVIDIA GPUs." but my PC is a Desktop and it's
enabled by default...
The obvious workaround is to disable this service but I think you need
to recheck the code that enables this service because it's enabling it
for Desktops too causing this problem. Or change the service to exit
without failure code in this case.
