Public bug reported: When I log on to a xubuntu session on a recent nightly build of plucky, my .profile is not honored; environment variables set there are not set in a terminal emulator session.
Here's what I did to reproduce the problem: Created a fresh Virtualbox VM. Installed minimal xubuntu from cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/daily-live/current/plucky-desktop-amd64.iso (the March 17th build.) Logged into the user created during install. Started a terminal, edited ~/.profile and inserted export PROFILE_RUN="$(date)" then sourced .profile and verified the environment variable was set. Logged out and back in. Started a terminal and did "echo $PROFILE_RUN" which showed nothing. It's like when lightdm/startxfce4 start the session it doesn't run the initial shell as a login shell. Switching to a different console and logging in a CLI session does show .profile being honored there. I also tried installing the Ubuntu daily and verified that logging into the GNOME session there does run .profile.
