To get an EXA-enabled -intel, it would be necessary to backport not only -intel but also the xserver (and some dependencies). I'm not sure it would be worth the effort, but am re-filing the bug accordingly, in case someone wishes to undertake the backport work.
** Summary changed: - [gutsy] faulty Xv extension since latest update + backport xserver 1.4 w/ EXA for Gutsy - faulty Xv extension since latest update ** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel There is a great new feature which comes with the new intel-driver. I quote from intels doc: "Question: Does the driver support the Xv extensions? Answer: To better support the Composite extension, the Intel graphics driver supports --for i915 and later-- textured video which uses the 3D hardware to paint the video directly to the frame buffer instead of using an overlay. This means there's no funny 'blue' image caused by the color key, and it means you can capture video frames with normal X tools." The big advantage which comes with this is, that you can easily put a accelerated video through your vga-out in overlay mode. No need to handle something like primary display, etc, because in the old method, you can output such an accelerated video signal only through _one_ video-output. - Now, finally, I come to the bugreport ;) - This feature is gone. The overlay mode functions like in the old method. - Another thing i noticed is, that video output with compiz now works, but it seems that there is no hardware acceleration. - However i didn't use compiz, so this is a big step back. - - I hope i make my point clear and you understand me. - - best regards, - slazZ + Now, finally, I come to the bugreport ** Tags added: backport ** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel There is a great new feature which comes with the new intel-driver.
