Public bug reported:
This is the upstream bug: https://github.com/audacious-media-
player/audacious/issues/1388
I had the Global Hotkeys plugin enabled. When I started using a Wayfire
Wayland desktop, Audacious would crash on startup. Apparently, that
plugin is designed for X, and it lacks proper handling for errors it
encounters when running on Wayland.
It is possible to run Audacious using Xwayland via: WAYLAND_DISPLAY= audacious
Another workaround is moving
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/audacious/General/hotkey.so elsewhere.
Once Audacious runs, the plugin can be disabled via the settings.
