I seem to be experiencing the same issue on Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS. I
briefly tried to install Debian to see if it handles differently than
Ubuntu on my laptop and perhaps has better support for an LTE modem, so
I removed the Ubuntu NVME from my laptop, added a new one, installed
Debian, then removed the Debian NVME, put back the Ubuntu NVMe, and now
the wifi icon disappeared from the top bar in the right menu with quick
config actions.

I tried re-installing the network-manager-gnome package, but to no
avail.
